The Open Competition of the Babel Film Awards features the best narrative short films from student filmmakers aged 14-18 in Hong Kong and Asia each year.

Submitted films are considered for nomination by Babel Film Workshop based on narrative storytelling skill, originality and production quality. Winners are determined through a voting process involving filmmakers, film teachers and past nominees. All nominated films will be screened at the Babel Film Awards.

The 3rd Babel Film Awards will take place on March 21, 2026 at Chinese International School in Hong Kong.

Rules & Eligibility

  • Students aged 14-18 enrolled in a school in Hong Kong or Asia are eligible

  • Films must be 1-7 mins in length, including credits (required), and made in in the past year

  • Any fictional film genre is accepted (documentaries or music videos are not accepted)

  • Each student can submit 1 film maximum as director

  • Films must not contain any copyrighted material, including music

  • Films not in English must be subtitled in English

  • Films must not contain any cursing; sexual or violent content; depiction of nudity, self-harm, smoking or substance abuse; or promotion of illegal activities

  • Films created for Babel 48, Film Stylo or Short Film Lab are not eligible

Submit Your Film

Films must be submitted by their director on or before January 23, 2026.
