Casting & Crewing: USC Student Short Film (“Nine Lives”)

Project Description: After repeatedly being saved from near-death by a mysterious stranger, a skeptical teenager uncovers a heart-wrenching secret: her childhood cat has been reincarnated to use all nine of his lives to protect her—no matter the cost.

Cast Roles:

  • Caitlin (female, 17-20): Tough, intelligent, and curious. Must convey suspicion, determination, and emotional vulnerability. Strong expressive range and presence. Able to perform a short physical scene (grappling/tackling).

  • Mr. Wiggles (male, 17-20): Quiet, selfless, ethereal vibe, serious. Needs strong nonverbal acting (lots of scenes without dialogue). Unironically funny. The absurdity of the “cat reincarnation” line must be sold while keeping it grounded.

  • Mugger (male, 30-40): Small role, but must be convincing in menace. Only a few lines, but must move and perform a physical threat convincingly.

  • Young Caitlin (female, 10-14): One short flashback scene, saving a kitten. Minimal acting required, but should be comfortable on camera. Cannot be allergic to cats.
